How we take a tree down
Most removals on the Coast and in Hornsby are in tight backyards, so dropping a tree in one go is rarely an option. A climber works up the tree, takes the canopy off limb by limb and lowers each piece with rigging gear. The trunk comes down last, in rounds small enough to carry out.
Where the truck can get close we chip the branches on site and take the timber away. If you want the mulch or the firewood, tell us and we'll leave it in a pile where you need it.
Council approval comes first
Central Coast Council and Hornsby Shire Council both protect most trees on private land, and each has its own list of exemptions. Marcus Nicholson is an AQF Level 5 consulting arborist, so on the first visit he can tell you whether your tree is exempt, whether you need a permit and what council will want to see. Our guides to the Central Coast Council rules and the Hornsby Shire Council rules explain the process.
Stump grinding on the same visit
A stump left behind sprouts suckers, trips people up and makes replanting hard. We can grind it out below ground level on the same day, which usually costs less than a separate trip.
What it costs
Every quote is fixed and in writing. The price depends on the tree's height and spread, what's underneath it, how we get in and how much timber leaves the site. There's more detail in our tree removal cost guide.
When to call us
- The tree is dead or has lost most of its leaves
- There's a new crack, split or cavity in the trunk
- The lean has changed or the soil is heaving at the base
- Fungal brackets are growing near the roots
- Limbs hang over the roof, pool or power lines
- Roots are lifting paths, slabs or pipes
