What Coast trees deal with

Salt wind, sandy soils and the east coast lows that roll through most years are hard on trees here. Norfolk Island pines and palms along the beaches carry heavy fronds and cones, the gums on the ridges around Kariong and Kincumber grow over houses, and shallow-rooted trees on the peninsula can let go in saturated ground.

Central Coast Council rules

Tree work on private land is controlled by Chapter 3.5 of the Central Coast Development Control Plan 2022. Some work is exempt, such as removing listed undesirable species. Anything else needs a Private Tree Works Application, which covers up to five trees. If a tree poses an imminent risk, council accepts urgent applications backed by an AQF Level 5 arborist.
